The National Park Service collaborates with Fort Sumter Tours, so you will have to book a boat tour with this company to visit the fort. Visitors can learn about the military history of the island while appreciating stunning views of Patriots Point, Downtown Charleston and the Ravenel Bridge.The only way to get to Fort Sumter is by boat. There’s so much history that we push to the way back of our minds and touring historic places brings it all to the front. I’m not a big history buff but enjoy touring these forts. Built just after the War of 1812, the fort also features exhibits on its design. We always had to visit forts when I was a kid and I was never a fan, but now as an adult I love checking them out!I didn’t know about this the last time we visited. Fort Sumter is a sea fort out on an island in the middle of Charleston Harbor and is a great place to visit if you like history and/or exploring ruins. Glad you had a great time.Wish we could have done the stop at Fort Sumter. While the exhibits at Fort Sumter focus mostly on Civil War history, the attractions at Patriots Point revolve primarily on the history of World War II and the Vietnam War.Patriots Point and Fort Sumter can be visited in tandem or separately.

Built just after the War of 1812, the fort also features exhibits on its design.Not only was this the site of the start of the Civil War, but it was also the site of the Second Battle of Fort Sumter in 1863, where the Union Army attempted to reclaim control over the fort. The simplest way to visit is with guided tour tickets. Sounds like a great tour for your family and a great day out.I have never fully visited SC, only Myrtle Beach.
