Fleet Admiral William Daniel Leahy (May 6, 1875 – July 20, 1959) was an American naval officer who served as the senior-most United States military officer on active duty during World War II. He appeared in the census on 29 January 1920 in Washington, D.C.
He graduated from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland in 1927, as an Ensign and served in the United States Navy East Coast Fleet. Rear Admiral William Harrington Leahy and Elizabeth Marbury Beale were married on 23 July 1927 in Georgetown, District of Columbia. He served in World War II and after the war served as Captain of the Shipyard Command, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Virginia, from June, 1953 to June, 1960.
