The character was first revealed in a trailer that was released the day before the series began airing. “I love that there are those little changes that are so impactful. "I fell in love with it like everybody else," she says, adding, "And it does look so real.

"It's ridiculous. "Though (as yet) we've only seen the Armorer in her foundry, Swallow did say that she was able to visit many of the other sets for the series.

"We were shooting those at the same time," Swallow explains. Zen, but with authority.” Those six words were all actor In the newly released Episode Three, her character becomes even more significant and intriguing as she forges metal plates to protect her top hunter (On the episode you can hear Swallow as well as another strong-willed woman pivotal to the series— Episode Three’s director Swallow said her scenes as The Armorer were shot concurrently with her introduction in the pilot, and she drew inspiration for her fearless, masked female leader from the first woman to direct a live-action "I remember first and foremost her intense curiosity. And then George Lucas had come to set that day to surprise John for his birthday, and he's standing there holding court ... telling some stories about when he was making the movies, and he's surrounded by people who are just completely caught up in what he's saying. But they told me a lot about where the inspiration for the character came from, which was incredibly helpful to me.

“The simple task of walking across the room … I would have loved to glance down and make sure I wasn’t going to trip on something because we had no peripheral vision, you couldn’t see down, but if I did that it would communicate this huge moment that was entirely extraneous. I’m really glad it looks as good as it does.”In real life, Mandalorians would not be fearsome fighters because they can barely move. But I have to say, even though I absolutely love that fur shoulder piece, it sure doesn’t seem very practical for somebody who is surrounded by fire all the time.”“The experience of being in the costume is not nearly as dignified as it translates on film. The first image of the Mandalorian was released on October 4, 2018 while Pedro Pascal 's casting as the titular character was announced on December 12, 2018. "Despite these challenges, Swallow is able to convey a huge amount of character from behind her visor, and a big theatrical background (as well as some mask training) definitely helped with that. "Both of those directors really gave us time and space to kind of learn the language of these masks and this armor, because we did learn very quickly that, the obvious thing that you can't emote with your eyes or your face or anything, but also that like really tiny movements could have great value, and that can be wonderful or that could be potentially very confusing in a scene, if you had a little twitch that draws the eye could wind up totally distracting from what you're trying to do in the scene.

"But most of what I got came from talking with John Favreau and Dave Filoni, and they didn't go so far as to assign me like, okay, this is exactly like where your armor came from and where she's going.

All of the action sequences that look so great where I’m hammering metal and putting things into the fire, those took a long time to actually capture.”From the awards race to the box office, with everything in between: get the entertainment industry's must-read newsletter. The Armorer first appeared in the first episode of the 2019 Disney+ television show The Mandalorian, which aired on November 12, 2019. "I remember seeing this really cool ship that we've all come to know now, against this green screen. She stops it at exactly the right moment, and she's able to calm everybody in that room down without being forceful.

"First I had the scenes and no bigger script, and then I was allowed to read the script for my episodes, and then I was allowed to read a few more scripts," she says.

"While she adds that she is glad that the character "knows so much and she's revealing so little," she admits that the practicalities of filming with two or more fully armored and helmeted Mandos — which adds to the characters' mystery — on one set can get a little silly.

It was great having her as a director while I was trying to find this character. She’s somebody who commands a room in a very graceful and simple way.
I remember when Pedro saw my mask he was like, ‘Wait a minute, why does she get to look so much cooler?”“There was this attempt at communicating a bit of regality.

"I think I saw that in her, and I recognize that that could be useful to the armor ... especially in that scene in Episode 3 when there's this fight breaking out right next to her, a lot of metal armor clanking together, guys being guys ... she doesn't raise her voice. For the first episodes she was working on, they had two soundstages with sets in them.

"And then I got to see one of the soundstages where they had his ship, and they had a lot of the green-screen stuff that they were doing with that when he lands in different places.

One of the more interesting characters featured thus far is the Armorer, a mysterious Mandalorian "blacksmith" who specializes in forging Beskar armor and knows far more than she lets on. I keep saying, I really hope that at some point they release a blooper reel, because when you put like two or more Mandalorians in a room together, chaos ensues, because we have no peripheral vision," she says. "Some of the incredible crafts and props (and puppets), of course, include the now-famous Baby Yoda, who Swallow got to meet in person.

Swallow admits that the armor would likely be cute, because, "how could it not be ... on that little creature? One of the coolest things for me in playing her is trusting that she does have that authority without having to be very forceful at all.”The Armorer has a helmet that’s more ornate than the others, adorned with spikes, and cut more in the style of an ancient Spartan warrior helmet.
